The Stadsschouwburg and the PHIL are the two largest venues in Haarlem. We organize more than 400 events per year: from hip-hop to dance, theater and cabaret at the Stadsschouwburg. And from pop and classical concerts to soul performances, television productions, business events and conferences at the PHIL. Our performances and events move, inspire and bring people together. Behind the scenes, we ensure everything runs smoothly, including financially. And that's where you come in. Are you a hands-on Business Controller with a passion for figures and data? Business Controller

for 32-36 hours per week

Organization & Department

We are one organization with two prominent venues in the center of Haarlem. Our team, consisting of 60 permanent employees, approximately 60 hospitality staff, and a dedicated number of volunteers, works together to ensure that all performances and events run smoothly. The Finance & Control department is led by the Financial Director and consists of three employees.

What will you do?

As Business Controller, you make an important contribution to the financial management and control of our organization. You support the management with sharp analyses, reliable steering information, and well-founded advice.

A selection of your responsibilities:

• You prepare (multi-year) budgets and support management with financial analyses, scenarios, and business cases;
• You provide reliable steering and management information by analyzing data and translating it into clear reports (including with Power BI);
• You check invoices from performers against the fee schedules and contract agreements, and handle the related communication;
• You handle and check invoicing to performers, representatives, tenants, and organizers;
• You monitor budgets, investments, and financial risks and advise on adjustments and process improvements (internal controls);
• You work closely with the Financial Controller: given the small-scale nature of the department, both strategic/analytical and operational work is required, and flexibility in handling financial and administrative tasks is essential.

What we're looking for

You are an analytically strong and meticulous colleague with a hands-on mentality, who can switch effectively between operational tasks and reviewing figures and data in reports. Additionally, you excel at planning, organizing, and prioritizing. Moreover, you feel at home in a cultural environment and understand how important a sound financial foundation is for our organization.

You also bring:

• Relevant education and 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar position;
• Experience with accounting systems and various reporting software;
• Excellent Excel skills and good knowledge of Microsoft 365;
• Affinity with the cultural sector and a passion for data-driven insights.
