About ICK Dans Amsterdam / Space for Dance Art

ICK is an international choreographic arts centre, rooted in Amsterdam Nieuw-West and based in Space for Dance Art: an open house for dance, research, and encounter. Here, we work daily on the future of the dancing body. ICK consists of a professional ensemble and the junior company ICK-Next, where new talent develops. Under the leadership of founders Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten, we are building a contemporary repertoire centred on the intuitive, thinking body. Our productions tour (inter)nationally to theatres and festivals, while new creations emerge in our studios, bringing together makers, dancers, students, and local residents for classes, talks, and artistic research.

It is a dynamic, hands-on environment where you are closely involved in a wide range of projects: from large-scale theatre productions to experimental studio presentations. ICK is immediately looking for

an all-round technician specializing in lighting (m/f/x)

As a lighting technician, you will be responsible for preparing and executing all lighting technology during performances and events. You will work closely within a small team alongside the permanent sound technician (who also serves as technical producer), the production manager, and the artistic leadership. We are looking for someone who wants to commit to ICK Dans Amsterdam for a longer period and is enthusiastic about being closely involved in the artistic development of performances and events.

What will you do?

• Prepare, create, and archive lighting plans for performances in the Netherlands and abroad.

• Create lighting designs for ICK's presentation venue: Space for Dance Art.

• Operate lighting equipment during performances.

• Carry out preparatory work for the realisation of productions.

• Set up and dismantle all theatre technology for touring performances (national and international).

• Maintain lighting systems and equipment in the rehearsal studios.

• Manage and, if necessary, repair equipment and maintain storage.

Who are you?

• You have at least MBO+ thinking and working level, an affinity with the performing arts, and several years of relevant experience.

• You have knowledge of ETC EOS lighting desks.

• You are familiar with electricity, electronics, data networks, and Wysiwyg CAD software.

• You are enthusiastic, curious, responsible, and willing to work irregular hours, often on weekends. Occasionally, you may also work abroad.

• You are able to work both independently and as part of a team.

• You have strong social and communication skills.

• You are organised but also possess improvisational skills.

• You have knowledge of safety regarding rigging, sets, special effects, and flammable materials.

• You have a good command of written and spoken Dutch and/or English.

• You are eager to learn and ensure your knowledge stays up to date.

• You preferably live in or near Amsterdam and have a driver's licence.

• You take initiative and are enthusiastic about thinking in terms of solutions.

We offer:

ICK Dans Amsterdam is a leading platform for contemporary dance, founded by choreographers Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten. As the resident company of the Meervaart Theater in Amsterdam, ICK produces international dance performances with both its own dance ensemble and a junior company (ICK-Next). Additionally, ICK supports the development of young talent and provides space for research and educational projects. ICK is based in the Space for Dance Art, where various cultural activities take place.

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join the team at ICK's Space for Dance Art.

As a volunteer, you'll mainly support our team during events and performances, helping to create a warm and welcoming experience for our audience and community.

Your tasks could range from hosting and welcoming guests, guiding the audience, and selling merchandise to preparing and managing the bar, among other things.

We aim to build an inclusive, connected volunteer team by organizing social get-togethers. These events will help everyone get to know each other and ICK better.
