Project: DASH-D - From Data to Action: Sustainable Medical Disposables in Dutch Healthcare

Location: Wageningen University & Research (WUR), Business Management & Organisation (BMO) Group

(Work is flexible, but data collection will mainly take place at UMC Utrecht )

    Duration: 12 months (approx. 0.2 FTE / 500 hours)

Start: As soon as a suitable candidate is selected

    About the project

DASH-D is a transdisciplinary collaboration between WUR, UMC Utrecht, HU, and societal partners including MPZ, Stimular, Witteveen+Bos, and The Footprinters. The project supports Dutch hospitals in making sustainable and circular choices for medical disposables by combining life-cycle assessment (LCA), multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM), and implementation science. The project will deliver a practical quick-scan decision tool and a communication and implementation roadmap for hospitals.

    Your role

We are looking for a motivated Master's student to support the DASH-D consortium with coordination, research support, and stakeholder engagement activities. You will work closely with Dr. () and collaborate with academic and healthcare partners.

    Key responsibilities

    • Support coordination and communication across project partners
    • Assist with data collection and quantitative analysis
    • Contribute to writing project outputs and reporting
    • Support stakeholder engagement activities (e.g., workshops, meetings)
    • Help develop dissemination materials (e.g., visuals, blogs, infographics)
    • Engage with Dutch healthcare institutions (Dutch communication required)

    Requirements

    • Enrolled MSc student in Sustainability, Health Sciences, Industrial Ecology, Health Policy & Management, or a related field
    • Fluent in Dutch and English (spoken and written)
    • Interest in healthcare sustainability, procurement, or implementation processes
    • Strong organisational and communication skills
    • Experience with LCA is a plus

Master's students from other Dutch universities (not only WUR) are warmly encouraged to apply, especially those with Dutch fluency and experience in Dutch healthcare.

    What we offer

    • A part-time student assistant contract ( 500 hours over one year / 0.2 FTE ) within a high-impact interdisciplinary project
    • The opportunity to contribute to sustainable and circular innovation in Dutch healthcare
    • Collaboration with leading academic, healthcare, and societal partners
    • Access to an active research and policy network in the Netherlands
    • DASH-D is part of a broader research ambition: the outcomes of this project will be used to develop a follow-up research proposal for larger national funding, with the aim of expanding the framework to other Dutch medical centers. This may create opportunities for continuation in a PhD trajectory in the next project phase.
