Freelance Dutch/English Speakers – Paid Remote Audio Study

We're looking for bilingual Dutch/English freelancers to participate in a paid audio recording study. This is a great opportunity to earn money remotely by having a natural conversation with another Dutch/English bilingual participant. 

What you'll do 

You will join an online audio call from your own device with one other participant. During the session, you'll have a natural, conversational discussion primarily in Dutch, while naturally mixing in English words, phrases and occasionally full sentences. This natural switch between languages is called code-switching and is something many bilingual speakers do in everyday conversations. 

For example: "Ik ben gisteren met mijn zus naar de bioscoop geweest, and anyway, the movie was so much better than I expected. Daarna zijn we nog snel iets gaan eten." 

We want natural code-switching where English mixes into the native-language conversation — mostly single words or short phrases, with full English sentences acceptable but appearing less often. 

Who we're looking for 

• Fluent Dutch speaker with a proficient English 
• Genuinely bilingual — for example, you grew up speaking both languages, lived abroad, or regularly use both languages at work or at home 
• Comfortable having a natural conversation for extended periods 
• Outgoing and comfortable speaking expressively 
• Have a stable internet connection 
• Have a dedicated external microphone or headset with a microphone 
• Able to participate in a quiet environment with no background noise 

What makes a good recording? 

We're looking for natural, expressive conversation rather than scripted speech. During the conversation, you should: 

• Naturally include English words or phrases every few sentences when it feels appropriate 
• Speak at a natural conversational pace 
• Respond naturally to your conversation partner 
• Use natural variation in intonation, rhythm and pitch 
• Avoid reading from a script or deliberately forcing English into the conversation 
• Never share personal or identifying information (PII) about yourself or anyone else 
• Avoid highly sensitive or toxic topics 
• English should generally appear as single words, short phrases or occasional full sentences, rather than making up most of the conversation. 

Session details 

• Freelance opportunity 
• Fully remote 
• 2 participants per recording session 
• Minimum of 7 recordings per session 
• Session duration: approximately 3.5 hours 
• Participation takes place online using your own device 
• You must be in a completely quiet environment 
• Compensation: $85.64 USD (approximately €73) per completed recording session 

If you know a friend or family member who also meets the requirements, you can recommend them to participate as your conversation partner during the application process.
