Assistant Controller

The Stadsschouwburg and PHIL are Haarlem's two largest venues. The Stadsschouwburg presents everything from hip-hop, dance and theatre to cabaret, while PHIL hosts everything from pop and classical concerts to soul performances, television productions, corporate events and conferences. Our performances and events move people, spark their curiosity and bring them together. Behind the scenes, we make sure everything runs smoothly, including the finances. And no two days are the same: our two venues host hundreds of different performances and events, making for a varied financial administration. Organisation & department

We are one organisation with two prominent venues in the centre of Haarlem. Together, our team of approximately 65 permanent employees, around 60 hospitality staff and a dedicated group of volunteers ensures that all performances and events run smoothly. The Finance & Control department is led by the Finance Director and consists of three employees.

What will you do?

You will work closely with the Controller. Together, you will ensure that the financial administration is in order and accurately reflects what is happening across the organisation. The main focus of your work will be the financial settlement of performances, events and venue hire. This is not a role where you sit behind a screen all day: you will be in frequent contact with colleagues across the organisation and approach them yourself when you need information.

A selection of your responsibilities:

• You will handle the financial settlement of performances and events;
• You will liaise with artist agencies and performers on financial matters;
• You will manage the administration for the commercial and other hire of our halls and spaces;
• You will contribute to the month-end close and reporting;
• You will manage the balance sheet accounts and make a significant contribution to preparing the annual accounts;
• You will support colleagues with questions about budget management and projects.

What we're looking for

We are looking for someone who keeps accurate financial records and is also curious about what lies behind the figures. You are comfortable approaching colleagues, asking questions, gathering information and actively thinking along when a process isn't running smoothly. You will also feel at home in a cultural environment and understand how important a sound financial foundation is to our organisation.

You will also bring:

• A relevant financial qualification at HBO or MBO+ level;
• Around three years of relevant experience in a finance role, preferably;
• An enthusiasm for financial administration and working with colleagues across different teams;

You will see where the figures come from and what your work supports: from a sold-out concert to a business meeting or an evening at the Stadsschouwburg.
