Job | Lead Naval Architect | Rotterdam Area

Rotterdam, Nederland

Job description

  • Role: Lead Naval Architect
  • Work location: Rotterdam area, the Netherlands - hybrid, three days in the office
  • Start: ASAP
  • Duration: One year, with the intention of continuing permanently
  • Contract: Employment contract
  • Language: English; Dutch is an advantage
  • Focus: Concept and basic design of specialist vessels, multidisciplinary engineering leadership, planning and budget control

As Lead Naval Architect, you will manage the concept and basic design of vessels for offshore, renewable energy, dredging, mining, salvage and decommissioning projects. You will bring naval architects, structural engineers, marine systems engineers and designers together while managing technical progress, planning and budgets. The role offers a hybrid arrangement in an international, English-speaking setting. Dutch is appreciated but is not required, and relocation support is available if you are moving to the Netherlands.

Where You'll Work

You will join a maritime engineering team designing custom newbuilds and conversions. Projects vary in vessel type and technical requirements, from hull performance and stability to the integration of offshore equipment and marine systems. Engineering work is developed for approval by classification societies such as DNV, Bureau Veritas and Lloyd's Register.

What You'll Do

  • Provide technical input during the commercial phase, translating client requests into design concepts, estimates and proposals.
  • Agree the project team with the department managers and establish the engineering plan and budget.
  • Lead engineers and designers in naval architecture, structures, marine systems and 2D/3D design.
  • Oversee vessel layouts, stability, weight and hydrodynamic calculations, and the optimisation of hull and ship structures.
  • Coordinate the integration of offshore equipment and marine systems, taking vessel workability into account.
  • Monitor engineering progress, planning and budgets, and discuss developments with clients and the department manager.
  • Coordinate engineering submissions and technical discussions with classification societies.

Profile

What You Bring

  • A master's degree in Naval Architecture, Maritime Engineering or a comparable discipline.
  • At least 10 years of engineering experience in the maritime industry.
  • Experience with concept and basic design, FEA analysis and 2D/3D modelling.
  • Knowledge of classification rules, approval processes and relevant maritime regulations.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering work and communicating with clients and technical stakeholders.
  • Good written and spoken English. Dutch language skills would be an advantage.

What's In It For You?

For employment candidates, you can expect:

  • A salary that reflects your experience, knowledge and responsibilities.
  • A fixed-term contract for one year, providing you with stability from day one and the clear intention of continuing your career with the client afterwards.
  • An attractive STIPP Plus pension scheme with a total contribution of 23.4%. You contribute 7.5%, while we cover the remaining 15.9%.
  • 8% holiday allowance, paid annually in May.
  • 37 vacation days per year, giving you plenty of time to recharge and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
  • Travel allowance of €0.23 per kilometer for your commute.
  • Moving to the Netherlands? We'll support you throughout your relocation, including housing assistance, registration procedures and, where applicable, your 30% ruling application (tax benefit for expats).
  • The opportunity to work on technically challenging projects where your expertise has a real impact on the final result.
  • An international, English-speaking working environment where you'll collaborate with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
  • Networking: life outside work also matters - that's why we enjoy spending time together through sports activities, team outings, our annual company party and other social events throughout the year.

The role also offers a hybrid working arrangement, with three days per week in the Rotterdam office.
